Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book an appointment?

For enquiries, please email us at enquiry@yorkshirenerveclinic.com or alternatively, please choose your preferred hospital location from this list and contact the appointments number provided. The appointments team will be able to advise on the next available appointment date of your choice.

Do I need a referral?

The majority of patients are typically referred following a consultation with a consultant of a different speciality e.g. Neurology, Orthopaedics, Spinal Surgery etc. If you have specific concerns and wish to self-refer, please email us at enquiry@yorkshirenerveclinic.com and we will get back to you and advise accordingly. Alternatively, use the Contact Us feature on the bottom right of the page to leave us a message.

Enquiries can also be made at the preferred hospital of your choice where the team can also provide the relevant information.

What can I expect from my consultation?

All consultations are conducted in person at your chosen location. The consultation consists of a review of your medical history and relevant clinical examination. This will be followed by the test (NCS/EMG). Following completion, Dr Foo will need to analyse the findings further prior to providing a full report to both you and your referring consultant. The finalised report is typically sent to your referring consultant within 7 working days.

Are there any restrictions that I need to observe before or after the procedure?

There are no restrictions prior to the procedure and patients can typically continue their usual physical activities immediately after the procedure without limitations. It is however important to inform us beforehand if you are on any blood thinners such as warfarin, apixaban, dabigatran etc. For further details on what to expect during the test, please feel free to browse the information provided here.

What happens if I am late for an appointment?

If you are running late, please contact the telephone number at the location of your appointment as soon as possible and we can advise on the best course of action. If you are late for your appointment we will try to accommodate as best we can, however, please be aware that the appointment will have to finish at the scheduled end time, and it may not be possible to perform the whole test as intended due to the limited time. If you are more than 10 minutes late after your scheduled time, the appointment will unfortunately be cancelled.

What is the cancellation policy?

Please inform us and the location of your appointment should you wish to cancel your appointment as soon as possible. If you cancel less than 24 hours before the appointment start time, or you fail to attend the consultation, the full cost of the appointment will be incurred.

When do I need to pay for my appointment and how?

Self-paying patients: Consultation fees must be paid in advance of the consultation. Fees can be paid via bank transfer. Fees will be detailed on your invoice issued to you electronically via email and/or SMS text message using the contact details you provide us. Please ensure that you include the payment reference provided.

Insured patients: Consultations fees will be settled with your insurer after your appointment. Please note you are responsible for any additional fees not covered by your insurer and these will be invoiced separately. Please see here for the list of insurers Dr Foo currently works with.

When will I receive a letter from my consultation?

A consultation report will be available within 7 working days.

Who else will receive a copy of my medical assessment letter?

We will routinely provide a copy of the clinic letter and report to both you and your referring doctor. The report can also be provided to your referring doctor electronically via secure email services (encrypted or via secure end-to-end encrypted GDPR-approved services such as nhs.net).

Can I be accompanied to my appointment?

If you wish to have a relative or friend with you, please bring them along. As the EMG part of the examination involves needles, you may wish to inform any individual accompanying you in the event they are needle-phobic.
